race report- K9-3K

this past sat in downtown raleigh about a billion dogs and their owners took to the streets for the annual SPCA K9-3K. it was chaos and yes, you had to be very careful where you stepped.

i should have taken more pictures. i should have taken pictures period. there were dogs there that you would not beleive were actually real. the little tea cup ones shivering in the sunlight, to the "is that a horse" one with the taped up achilles, to the snufalupagus (sound it out folks) look a like. and yes, most dogs do look like their owners.. or vice versa....

a race it was not. there was stopping and starting and sniffing and untangling.. and that was even before the gun went off.

we covered 1.7 miles in a fiery 37 minutes.

each of us had a little different hi-lite of the day:

madison - eating a recently forgotten dollop of ice cream off the asfault.
me- not having to feel pain or suffering with a mile to go.
bobby - realizing that no, we dont have the worst behaved dogs in NC.
smokey- finding the greenest patch of grass in a very nice downtown neighborhood and right infront of the owners who were perched out on their stoop, dropping a very healthy sized dinger.. and then burping and trotting off to join the masses.

and heres something i had never encountered.. i was yelling "madison, lets go" and this little girl says "thats my name". ummm OK. what do you say to that? its all very awkward.

great start to a great weekend, which by the way is now long forgotten. oh work. why must you ruin a good thing.

i have also by the way made a concerted effort to get to a somewhat respectable race weight. but plans have been foiled by the likes of home made baked goods. DRAT.

one other notable from the weekend. got in a great swim at jordan lake sunday. tweeked the shoulder a little bit - so not so good there - and well have washed my hair twice since then and i still think i have a little extra "body" courtesy of the lake. nice.

What a cute family! Yes, more pics would have been great. I love all things cute especially the little tiny ones. My dog and I have matching coats. Her's is black and furry as is mine. lol.. That's hillarious about Smokey. Of COURSE that's where he went!

Marit would love that cake...that doggie run looks like so much fun! Rooney would be my best participant, but I can't keep up with him. Cayenne would stop to smell the flowers.

awesome - always love it when the dogs decide to crap in the nicest lawn in the neighborhood when people are out and get to watch me fumble around trying to keep 3 big dogs from pulling me down the road before I can scoop up the poo (in a biodegradable poop bag of course ;-)

cute dogs! take care of the shoulder, you have to swim with that you know!
